  • A note from the editor
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thank you all for the warm welcome the 4x4OffRoads.com web site has received! The growth has been steady and sure and this can only mean that I will do more...

We had a lot of snow around Christmas but these last days temperature has gone up and it has been raining some. A lot of the snow is melting away, but hopefully more will come later.

Fellow 4 wheelers that are interested in taking a trip to Iceland have asked about road and weather conditions to expect here. During spring when snow and ice is melting from the highlands ALL mountain roads are closed. The worst month is usually May. Some roads open in early June, but the opening can come as late as in July for some roads. Maps and information about road conditions in Iceland are available at the public roads administration web site.

Anyway the Sport Trac Project is starting slowly. Mostly this is due to too much work as of these last weeks. I will have to fix a few things to get it through official inspection. It needs a new tie-rod end and both control arm ball-joints on the left side.

Next week I am receiving a 2004 Grand Cherokee that I am importing from USA. Along with the Grand will come the wheels and tires I chose for the ST. The Grand will be owned by one lucky person - but of course strictly on a first come first served basis!

  • Snow-trip around Skjaldbreidur volcano
Snow comes and a trip to the closest volcano is on schedule. After spending the holidays eating and meeting with the family everyone is anxious to seize the day!

Einar had offered me a ride in his Cherokee since my truck is too loud for comfortable rides. Two other trucks are in our group, Birgir in his 1999 Land Cruiser 90 and Armann in his 1991 Land Cruiser 80.

Here is the full story with pictures.

  • Oscar and his 1996 Full Size of the Year 2004!

BIG is too small word to describe this truck that Oscar Hardarson has owned for more than six years. In that time he has completely modified and rebuilt it to take on the most demanding off-roading trips. To those that see the truck it is no surprise that it has been named the Full Size of the Year 2004 by the Full Size Bronco web site.

Read the story with lots of pics.

  • Ford Bronco 1974 project
There is something about the looks of the early Bronco that is appealing to many and the durability can be seen in how many are still in full use and how popular they are for rebuilding.

This is a story about the restoration and modifications done on a 1974 Ford Bronco. A Bronco that has stayed in the same family for many years - giving it character and soul.

Read the article and see the pictures here!

  • Joke - Guessing Game
A shepherd was herding his flocks in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand new Jeep Cherokee advanced out of a dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and a YSL tie leaned out of the window and asked our shepherd: "If I can tell you exactly how many sheep you have in your flock, will you give me one?"

The shepherd looks at the yuppie, then at his peacefully grazing flock and calmly answers "sure!" The yuppie parks the car, whips out his notebook, connects it to a cell-phone, surfs to a NASA page on the Internet where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system, scans the area, opens up a database and some 60 Excel spreadsheets with complex formulas. Finally he prints out a 150 page report on his hi-tech miniaturized printer, turns round to our shepherd and says: "you have here exactly 1586 sheep!"

"This is correct. As agreed, you can take one of the sheep" says the shepherd. He watches the young man make a selection and bundle it in his Cherokee.

Then he says: "If I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me my sheep back?"

"Okay, why not" answers the young man. "You are a consultant" says the shepherd.

"This is correct" says the yuppie, "How did you guess that?"

"Easy" answers the shepherd. "You turn up here although nobody called you. You want to be paid for the answer to a question I already knew the solution to. And you don't know @$#% about my business because you took my dog."
