  • A Note From The Editor
As you can see below there are a ton of new articles for you to enjoy.

I went to Norway to report about the last two rounds of the Formula Off Road World Cup. They ware held in Skien a beautiful town in southern Norway.

Reporting on the Formula OffRoad events for the season has be great fun and I plan to continue next summer.

The last Formula OffRoad event in the Norwegian series will be October 14th in Kulmoen Grustak in Vormsund. Starting at 11:00. Admission is 100 NKR. For more information visit: www.formulaoffroad.no

Now it is time to make some interesting, fun and perhaps challenging offroading trips here in Iceland and who knows if I can bring you stories from other parts of the world as well.

Winners in the 4x4 Article Contest will be announced in a special edition of the 4x4 Newsletter coming out in a few days. In that edition there will also be information about the next contest - so start thinking about interesting stuff and taking pictures to show the off roading world.

  • 4x4 Store Opens!

The shop for 4x4 stuff is done in our cooperation with Amazon.com. Therefore it has a secure way of payment handling just like when you buy books or other things directly from Amazon.

Please take a look at the new store and let me know how you like it.

  • Readers Rigs Are On!
If you have a 4x4 you feel proud of and want to show others - please don't hesitate to submit pictures and descriptions.

Already there are a number of nice trucks up. My plan is to make these pages high-quality and accessible and I need your help in doing so. Almost all 4x4's are unique and I am sure yours is in some way. Share your experience and allow the rest of the 4 wheeling world to see your truck and how it is used...

Take some time in describing your 4x4 and how you enjoy it. Use as many words as needed. As more rigs are added I get more picky - choosing only interesting rigs with lots of information and an unusual story.

Here is the page for submitting your 4x4 and looking at other readers trucks.

    4x4 Driver Mindset

Once you are on the road you have only yourself and your fellow travelers to count on. Having a well kept and clean vehicle is important as well as knowledge about your specific truck and how to fix minor things.

Always choose the easy way if can!

    Mindset

There are two types of people. Those that think they know it all and/or have been there done that. Then there are those that consider themselves a life long learner. Which type do you intend to be? The answer will define you as a person not only in 4 wheeling trips but also in life in general.
    • Treat other travelers and the nature with respect and show proper driver etiquette.
    • Look ahead and evaluate the conditions and your vehicles abilities. Think about the effects a certain action on your part has. In tough situations step out of the 4x4 and examine the track on foot. Get a feel for the environment and the task at hand.
    • Turn away before you get into serious trouble. Remember that it is better to get stuck than rolled over.
    • When what you are doing is not working - Try something new!

    Driver Etiquette

    • Respect the area you are traveling through. Handle nature with the care it deserves.
    • When you come to a closed gate. Get all trucks in the convoy through and be sure to close it again.
    • Take all your garbage with you and try and take more if possible – leaving the place better than when you came.
    • Don’t spill oils and other fluids on the Earth.
    • Drive slowly when meeting or passing hikers and bikers and respect private property like private roads, land or houses.
    • Give extra space on hills and slopes.
    • Keep your senses alert and don’t consume alcohol before or during driving.
    • Follow local rules and regulations.

  • Your Single Biggest Wish?
I am adding more and more content and value to 4x4OffRoads.com.

Please... if there's anything IMPORTANT that you wish I would do, anything that will make your life easier and/or bring you better knowledge...

Reply to this e-mail with your biggest wish for the site!

Another option for you is to take part in a simple survey I set up. It should only take a couple of minutes to fill out. Also you get to voice your preferences regarding further development of the 4x4OffRoads.com web site.

I review all wishes and use to build a list for the most wanted, which I then prioritize according to demand.

  • Tip - ABS Brakes
As as general rule of thumb it is better to NOT have ABS brakes in a 4x4 in most off road situations. ABS brakes work well on the highway and many newer vehicles therefore have ABS. A few may have an on/off switch to turn the system off. ABS are most dangerous when you are in an extremely slippery terrain with low traction. Then the ABS can kick in and not allow the wheels to just stop. If your primary use for your truck is off roading then you may consider having the system turned off by a mechanic.

  • Digital Photo Web
As you may have noticed there is a new logo visible on the 4x4OffRoads.com site. I discovered that I have gained experience in building web sites that are heavily supported by digital images. Also - being a visual kind of guy I enjoy taking pictures of various subjects. Therefore I started a new web site that I use as a hub or central station for all my web sites and also to share photos I gather through my other interests and travel. The web is of course named Digital-Photo-Web.com

You are welcome to take a look and even send in a picture or two of your favorite subject in the reader photos section.

It can be on any theme you are interested in.

Best wishes and keep on wheeling,
    Thrandur Arnthorsson
