A Note From The Editor

This issue marks the introduction of a new name for the 4x4 Newsletter. It is now be called "Head Off Road!" with the subtitle "Your Monthly Guide To Enjoying Your 4x4 Off Road". I'm counting on this change to give the newsletter a lighter and friendlier face and help adding more subscribers. Of course if you can think of a 4 wheeling friend that may not yet be a subscriber - well you know what to do...

The articles in this issue are from the action packed Formula Off Road events from Hella in Iceland, an autumn photographic and off road story from the middle of Transylvania as well as the report from my Norway trip to the first Trial event I have attended.

New 4x4 Articles And Off Road Stories

Off Road Hella 2 2007 Off Road Hella 2 2007
The sixth round of the World Cup in Formula Off Road is also at Hella. The weather was pretty wild during the night and the wind is still blowing hard with plenty of dust and sand in the air. Probably a lot like a sandstorm in the Sahara desert!
Canon Off Road Experience Canon Off Road Experience
It’s late autumn in Romania. Each and every evening brings a veil of fog across the fields. Harvest is well on it’s way in the sass village of Biertani, in the middle of Transylvania. A perfect opportunity to combine photography and 4 wheeling.
Off Road Hella 1 2007 - Gunnar Gunnarsson in the Clown Off Road Hella 1 2007
The fourth and last round of the Icelandic Championship and the fifth round of the World Cup in Formula Off Road is at Hella in south Iceland. The competition starts as early as possible since the weather forecast looks ugly for the afternoon.
Nordic Trial Open - Brokelandsheia Nordic Trial Open - Brokelandsheia
This is the first time I attend an off-road trial. Many of the Nordic top drivers are gathered here today to compete. It's really fun to compare it to the Formula Off Road and see the similarities as well as the differences.

Readers Rigs Are On!

If you have a 4x4 you feel proud of and want to show others - please don't hesitate to submit pictures and descriptions.

Already there are a number of nice trucks up. My plan is to make these pages high-quality and accessible and I need your help in doing so. Almost all 4x4's are unique and I am sure yours is in some way. Share your experience and allow the rest of the 4 wheeling world to see your truck and how it is used...

Take some time in describing your 4x4 and how you enjoy it. Use as many words as needed. As more rigs are added I get more picky - choosing only interesting rigs with lots of information and an unusual story.

Here is the page for submitting your 4x4 and looking at other readers trucks.

Your Single Biggest Wish?

I am adding more and more content and value to 4x4OffRoads.com.

Please... if there's anything IMPORTANT that you wish I would do, anything that will make your life easier and/or bring you better knowledge...

Reply to this e-mail with your biggest wish for the site!

Another option for you is to take part in a simple survey I set up. It should only take a couple of minutes to fill out. Also you get to voice your preferences regarding further development of the 4x4OffRoads.com web site.

I review all wishes and use to build a list for the most wanted, which I then prioritize according to demand.

Tip - Lockers Caution

Engaging your lockers while the tires are spinning can easily break your precious driveline. Driving with 100% lockers on dry surface puts a lot of strain on the driveline. It also makes taking turns difficult – since the 4x4 has a high tendency to go straight. Crawling over rocks while turning can break the sturdiest of axles.

Digital Photo Web

As you may have noticed there is a new logo visible on the 4x4OffRoads.com site. I discovered that I have gained experience in building web sites that are heavily supported by digital images. Also - being a visual kind of guy I enjoy taking pictures of various subjects. Therefore I started a new web site that I use as a hub or central station for all my web sites and also to share photos I gather through my other interests and travels. The web is of course named Digital-Photo-Web.com

You are welcome to take a look and even send in a picture or two of your favorite subject in the reader photos section.

It can be on any theme you are interested in.

Best wishes and keep on wheeling,
Thrandur Arnthorsson
