Need help choosing 44-49" tires

by BCMike

I now have a '81 Chevy, 454, th400 tranny, np205 transfer case, D60 and 14 bolt axles, has about 6" of lift and 39.5" tires.

I plan on a 3:1 TC reduction, 4.88 gears, lower transmission 1st/2nd gear ratios, locking the axles. I would like to run 49" Iroks but I'm not sure if the axles would hold up the power, whcih is 300-325hp range. I run deep snow in the winter, much like Thrandur and his buddies in Iceland, but I do my winter driving 99.9% solo so reliability is the absolute importance. My other choices would be 44" Fun Countrys, but I don't know if they come in a 16.5" wheel size. and the would be Trxus STS. Super Swampers, Ground Hawgs ( I love the old school look, these are an option too). 46" Baja Claws are another favorable option.

What do you think I should run, can Iroks work with this truck or are they too big. I see Icelandic trucks with 1 ton axles and Iroks or Baja Claws, maybe I can do the same..... Thanks for the time!!

Mike.

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There are so many highway bound posers that never go off the pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in Iceland is really refreshing.
