Update: Nissan Patrol 4.2 TDi Power
by: F

Hey Thrandur,
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. Of course when we say the 4.2TDi has poor power it's alway relative to something. When you come from large ISUZU, GM, etc background one can only hope...
Well I better let you know that I now run a diesel-lpg (gas) system on the old girl.
Power now from 110HP to 150HP whilst the lpg is running. When I run out of lpg it goes back to pure diesel and of course so too does the power.
Our fuel prices are skyrocketing at the moment. Something about fuel companies running poor and government not taxing enough.
But the side effect of the diesel-lpg conversion is that I've improved by diesel economy from 15 litres per hundred kms to approx 13 l/100. In turn I use 3 litres per hundred on lpg. Diesel here is approx $1.70/litre and lpg is $0.60/litre so there's a little saving. But with the added power I now am confident to run the larger tyres without the gear reduction.
We're a bit against gear reduction as we spend a lot of time trying to cover great distances so high gears for the open road is very important for us for economy.
Great chatting with you.
F

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There are so many highway bound posers that never go off the pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in Iceland is really refreshing.
