    Description

    olin
    (Lincoln, IL United States)

This is the trooper before I took the ifs out. will have new pics later. I have a website just for the build.
I have a 1986 usuzu trooper II and I have taken the old motor, transmission, transfer case, and axels and ripped them out and thrown them to the junk man.

I have A 351 modified engine, C-6 transmission, gear driven transfer case, and the 1/2 ton axels to comlete the motor and trans setup.

I have started on the project of course but I have come across a huge bump and not sure what to do. I have cut the old motor mounts out and any other metal that was welded to the side of the frame so that the bigger engine will fit in between the frame rails.

My major problem right now is, I either have to make the new motor mounts mount up on the underside of the frame and set the motor down a lot further in the frame than I would really like or cut the firewall to where there is a bigger hole and will allow the transmission to come up higher. Now, that is the problem, any suggestions?

My email is gsxr_man_1980200 (at) yahoo.com thanks

well for the first comment way back in jan. I did make it all fit lol that wasnt the problem. Really what it comes down to is some of the choices I made wasnt the best and your right, the isuzu's are bullet proof for the most part. I currently drive a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo as a daily driver but also take it wheeling. I am selling the trooper though for the last guy that made a comment. I am selling it cheap as well. If your interested in it, send me a e-mail at gsxr_man_19802000@yahoo.com and we can discuss the actual price in private. Thanks all

    Like your thinking...

Quite the project, I had an 86 white, trooper II identical to yours. Thought this was my old friend when I saw it. I swapped in solid toyota turbo axles, cross over stearing and had the original motor/trans rebuilt. With the proper gearing (5.29s) and 35"s it was pretty strong and took a beating (I was 17). They seem to hold up better the lighter you keep 'em. Not the best hiway vehicle with these modifications tho, 65mph was "interesting." That 351 could fix that though, haha. I hope it all works out for you. Love these trucks, if it's ever for sale let me know. Good luck to you.

    Your Problem Is Obvious

What made you think a 351M/C6 would fit in an Isuzu Trooper? You problem is you're trying to stuff 10lbs of "stuff" in a 2lb bag. You can MAKE it fit, but that don't make it right. Stick with something that doesn't require cutting the truck in half to make it fit. All that stuff you threw to the junkman, you should have kept it. These are bullet proof little vehicles and you sure don't need 3/4 ton Ford running gear to keep 'em that way. These things have 4.55 gears stock, lock up the axles and toss a 2.6L in (which bolts right up by the way, and its a Chevy/Isuzu) with a manual tranny and call it a day.
