During the World War II we got to know the iconic Jeep Willys. Simple and capable 4x4 that 6 men could lift!
From the very first Jeep built in 1940 for the military it's main purpose
has been to take it off-roads. To this day the Jeep is extremely popular for
all kinds of use and modifications.
The word "Jeep" is often used for other types of 4x4s. The word could be a
slang version of GP standing either for "Gov. Purposes" or "General Purposes"
or even from the comic book character Eugene the Jeep.
Jeeps have of course been most popular for their off road capabilities. Jeep Wrangler
is currently the only light-duty 4x4 with solid axles front and rear. The Jeep Wrangler
Rubicon is the best equipped with Dana 44 axles front and rear as well as air lockers.
