REVIEW: 2013 Ford F-150 Raptor

Review

The 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is a special breed of truck that will have you volunteering to run up to the store for milk, bread, and anything else you might need. The Raptor is so fun to take off-road, you may finally even give into that temptation of cutting across a vacant field to get there too. But no matter where you are going in this truck and no matter how you decide to get there, anyone who's ever had the slightest desire to off-road will stare with envy when this truck passes by.

Overview:

The Ford Motor Company turned many a head in 2010 when they introduced the first Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. The Raptor was made with one purpose in mind, and that purpose was off-roading. Each model released since its introduction has been met with applause and the same can be said for the 2013 model. Its wider, more aggressive body style and very distinct FORD grille make this truck stand out from every other truck on the market. There's no doubt that this truck is a lean mean off-roading machine!

Specifications:

The engineers at the Ford Motor Company have pulled out their big guns with this truck. The Raptor comes with a 6.2 liter V8 that puts out 434 lb-ft through an electronic six-speed automatic transmission. The raptor has a transfer case that can switch power to all four wheels on the go without breaking a sweat. Both front and rear axles feature a 4.10:1 ratio, and the rear has a nice electronic locking differential.

4X4 Capability and Features:

The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor's 6.2L V8 engine with 411 horsepower and 434 ft-lb of torque has enough power to handle just about anything you ask it to. Plus, it comes equipped with heavy duty skid plates to protect its good looks. Though the ride height is a taller than your regular F-150 and the larger tires help traverse off-road courses, you don't want to go driving this through really deep mud unless you've got a winch. Which brings us to my next point…

One of the things that makes the Raptor such a great truck is that it's ready to accept whatever 4x4 accessories you want to put on it. It even comes with an auxiliary switch board that is already wired to the power box, so adding accessories is a walk in the park. Further, the Raptor is absolutely jam packed with technology: front and rearview cameras, memory adjustable pedals, a 4.2" LCD Screen with navigation, Sirius radio, and a digital message center that displays distance-to-empty, average fuel consumption rates, and the current inside and outside temperatures.

Safety:

The Raptor is an exceptionally safe 4x4 machine. It is built with an integrated safety cage that features advanced hydro formed high-strength steel, and the dual hydro formed front tubes on each side of the engine bay are precisely shaped to absorb impact. This truck is absolutely loaded with airbags, including canopy airbags, and it also has an assortment of electronic safety systems like ABS, traction control and more.
