FJ Cruiser Restoration

Cars have been around for a century, give or take some years. That’s an awful long time for anything mechanical to survive. This is the reason why some people begin restorations. Some do it because they want to. Some do it because they have to. But all do it because they feel a need to show their appreciation towards beauty, pay tribute to the designs of the past and enjoy a little bit of history on wheels.

Today we’ll be showing you one of the better projects we’ve come across in time – an impeccably restored Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 40. Built in 1977, this jewel of a vehicle has stood the test of time, but has not managed to shake the rust issue that comes with age.

Brought from the United Kingdom, the truck has come to be the property of Mr. Marius Matache, in Bucharest. Slowly but surely, the restoration process began. First, the chassis, then the engine, suspensions and everything that comes with it. His aim was to follow a “by-the-book” restoration process, leading up to a pristine, factory-like FJ. With most parts purchased from the US, where the FJ cult is far more advanced.

Everything that had been available, new or aftermarket replica has been used, save perhaps for the side mirrors which, in my opinion are far better than the originals.

We could tell you, step by step how the FJ got it’s chassis sandblasted, how the engine was rebuilt, how the OME springs and M8000 winch were added. But really, what’s the point? The pictures should pretty much clear any questions anyone would ever have about the truck and it’s restoration. Truly a one off truck.
