Floatation tires

by Michael M
(Canada)

My tire shop is having a hard time getting a Gumbo Mudder, they are a special order for me from the USA and several weeks away. Since it is not his regular line of tires he cannot offer a road hazard warranty, and if I wreck one I will be several weeks out waiting for another.

The radial tires I can get readily, all in a 38/15.50-15:

Interco Trxus STS. Looks good on paper, 13" tread width. What do you think of this tire?

Interco Super Swamper Radial. Not a very wide tread, but available.

Interco Swamper SSR. Wider tread, looks good.

I also looked into the Ground Hawg, I see you've ran them yourself on your Sport Trac, it looks skinnier than other 38" tires but it must work.

SO, what tire would you recommend for me to run out of my choices. The STS seems to have the widest profile, and I see it's used in Iceland. I'm kind of leaning towards this tire, unless you think the Super Swampers are better.

Again thanks for the time, I hope all is well in Iceland.

Cheers,

Michael M

P.S. Sorry to bug you again, I emailed you back in May this year regarding a descent 38/15.50-15 tire to use on my Jeep for the deep snow in the winter.

Hey Michael!

I have heard some scary stories about Interco tires. That means for tires that have been aired down have occasionally busted while driving on the highway.

The tire survey answered some questions and has a few comments on individual brands.

Personally I would go for the Ground Hawg II if you can't get Mudders.

All the best,
Thrandur
