There is nothing that can top the experiences one can have in the ol Intl Scout trucks and Travelalls. I grew up going camping and on muddy trails with 8-10" of sludge coming up to the door level. Never once did we get stuck in our 79 Intl Scout 2 SUV, plus if its sunny the hardtop is removeable.
The best motor ever made was the 345ci V-8 with the TorqueFlight 727 automatic with manual lock hubs. I have owned lots of 4x4's and the only downfall to them is parts to rebuild the engine are hard to find and expensive. If smog laws weren't as bad here in California I would have swapped in a Chevy 350ci and TH350 tranny in there.
Other 4x4's owned is a 74 Datsun 620 4x4 which is a factory option in 74 from other shops which add the complete drivetrain from a CJ5 Jeep into the Datsun frame and body. And 87 F250 Diesel 4x4 truck which was great and just a bear to get through narrow trails.
I really enjoy seeing real 4WD
vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There
are so many highway bound posers that never go off the
pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in
Iceland is really refreshing.
