Pinzgauer 710M, 1973, 2.4l 4cyl air-cooled engine, hydraulic difflocks front and rear, portal axles.
We build a roll cage, put in an air compressor and build in a hydraulic winch (Warn H9000).

The hydraulics come from a connection between the engine crankshaft pulley wheel and the hydraulic pump, which can be switched on and off thru an electric clutch on the pulley wheel side (so no turning the pump if not needed).
The car was completely overhauled and is in great shape.

We like to take it to the Belgium Ardennes, hills and woods, but if possible also to Iceland. Been there about 10 times, 2 times with this car. I never had more fun.
Unfortunately Holland is a flat and concreted country with no or almost no offroad possibilities.
I saw on your site many Icelandic cars with winches. However there are almost no trees.
If there is no other vehicle available to tie the winch cable onto, do you use ground anchors? If so do you have information for me about the types, or where you get them in Iceland?

Some use what we call snow anchors. I believe
ArcticTrucks made a few of them some time ago.
Haven't seen them in use though.

I will be taking my car there again late June to enjoy some driving and for work.
I would appreciate it if you can give me some
info about Iceland and ground anchors from your experience.

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD
vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There
are so many highway bound posers that never go off the
pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in
Iceland is really refreshing.
