Rainforest Murça '09

The Rainforest Murça was born in 2005 from the oldest Rainforest Challenge Selection. Before 2005, this RFC Selections were based in Spain and from 2005 moved to the wonderful, ancient Town of Murça in the north of Portugal.
Actually, the event finishes the RFC Selection project and opens the entry-form to all European teams; in the past two years, teams from: UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Bulgaria, compete in Rainforest Murça giving it an International look.
The territory is very lovely and amazing; in this area the production of wine and olive-oil is exported worldwide and the local Chamber winning a few Awards all around the world.
The event looks very extreme with the difficult no-stop 5 days & nights where the teams take part in more than 45 specials stages and sleeping 3 to 4 hours every night on the tracks.
The Rainforest Murça are famous for the special rules about the 4x4
assistance: the teams have no-external assistance permitted. If you
brake something during the race, you have a time for repair everything,
between the SS or after your DNF in the special close-park.
You can repair everything yourself, only if you have the spare-parts
with you, in the 4x4.
No outside help is permitted, just between competitors. Finally, if
you do not have a spare-parts with you: sorry, you are out of the race!
These rules sound like jungle, where you do not have garages or
whatever.
During the scrutineering days, the marshal verifies the obligatory
minimum equipment.
For balanced the 4x4’s, the tires have a maximum size permitted of 95cm (36inch), measured in horizontal gogin through the center of the rim.
A special thanks to the Murça Administration for help the organization with bureaucracy and for suppling Official Administration people with 4x4’s and caterpillars for planning the tracks and preparing the SS.
The daily road-books between the SS pass true green forests, wonderful panoramas on the top of highlands and blue-deep river-crossing for more than 60km a day.
More than 50 marshals and 20 official yellow 4x4’s take part to the event, day and night.
The Rainforest Murça takes place from 1. to 6. of September; the entry fee is 1.500,00€ for each team and includes:
- inscription
- official cocktail of Tuesday, goodbye lunch of Saturday
- bags of meals Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- official t-shirts and shirts for each participant
- official stickers
- special rates in the purchase of 4x4 accessories
- road-book and competition info’s
- campsite zone of (it is not obligatory for the participants)
- closed parks for the vehicles
The final prizes are very interesting:
- the #1 team win 12.000,00€
- the #2 team win 6.000,00€
- the #3 team win 4.000,00€
- the #4 and #5 win a 1.000,00€ each team
