Double titles to Finland

Fourth Round of the World Cup Championship took place in Skien in Norway on Sunday the 2. of September. Sixteen cars were entered in Unlimited class and ten in Modified Standard.

Finn Erik Løberg in Racerunner

Arne Johannesen driving Lightfoot

Gunnar Gunnarsson in the Clown rolling in the last track.
The Icelanders had a good start and were doing good most of the race. After the fifth track The Icelanders were on top of the race, leading with six cars in the eight top places. The sixth and last track was disastrous for the Icelanders who drove outside the track or rolled their cars over. Before the last track, Gunnar Gunnarsson driving Trúðurinn (The Clown), was leading the race and needed only to finish the track to win the race. However he rolled his car over and fell down to third place. The Norseman, Finn Erik Løberg was following Gunnar closely through out the race, driving his car, Racerunner, without any mistakes and the victory was his when Gunnar rolled his car. Another Norseman, Arne Johannessen was driven his car, Lightfoot, very skillfully and finished second.
After this race, Finn Erik Løberg is leading the World Cup Championship with 32 points after four rounds of the competition. The two last rounds will be driven at Hella Iceland, 22. and 23. of September. Gunnar Gunnarsson is in fifth place with 16 points. The drivers between Løberg and Gunnar will not be competing at Hella. Løberg’s position is very good and it will be difficult for Gunnar to win the title.

The race in Skien was also the last round of The Scandinavian Championship and it was the Finn, Miikka Kaskinen who won that title after having competed in eight races.

Christian Austad from Norway

Mikael Berg from Denmark driving the Raisin.

Mika Valkonen in Commando
Christian Austad from Norway won the Modified Standard Class after Tomas Nyholm, who was leading the race, rolled the Suzuki in the third track. Sofia Scholin-Borg finished fifth but it was enough for her to win The World Cup since none who is close to her plans to compete at Hella. Tomas Nyholm from Finland had the highest score in the Scandinavian Championship in Modified Standard and is the champion in that class.
