The first Formula Off Road Icelandic Championship 2010 is held at Kollafjordur. The location is right below the slopes of Esja, Reykjavik's city mountain. Starting the season with some serious testing for men and machines.

The trucks are transported with less spacious tires that have to be changed before the race. Other tasks include official checkup and filling up the fuel tanks etc.

Hafsteinn Thorvaldsson driving the Turf starts out pretty well.

A number of impressive attempts...

...and he gets 5th place.

Bjorn Bragi Saevarsson on the Tremor starts the first track with a blast.

The sharp right turn and the momentum...

...has it roll over.

Still Bjorn gets it back on its tires and show some great stunts.

Leo Vidar Bjornsson on the Iron Maiden is trying to use 44 inch Super Swamper tire instead of the paddle tires. His thinkning is that they are not as vulnerable in this type of gravel.

Perhaps not because of the tires Leo rolles his truck in the timed track after getting through the puddle.

Olafur Bragi Jonsson on the Fox.

Olafur Bragi ends in 4th place.

Gudlaugur Helgason (Gulli) driving the Magic Yellow successfully throught the endgate of the first track.

Gulli drives agressively and secures the second place.

Benedikt Sigfusson on Hlunkurinn.

After some impressive effort (including a magical landing after this situation) he ends up in 6th place.

Bjarki Reynisson in the Animal.

4x4 Off Roads!

The puddle driving proves extra challenging for Bjarki as the front drive is not working. After almost flipping the car on the return trip through the puddle he ends up in 7th place.

Johann Birgir Magnusson driving his Fordson down a steep slope.

Johann Runarsson in the Clown.

Robert Agnarsson in Heimasaetan.

Jon Orn Ingileigsson taking the Choire Boy through the 350 point end gate.

Jon Orn has a great day and wins the Unlimited Class.

Magnus Sigurdsson is competing in a newly built Suzuku Jimny. Magnus ends up in 5th place.

Steingrimur Bjarnason in his Willys.

The Willys entering the puddle.

Steingrimur has plenty of power and ends up in second place.

Haukur Thorvaldsson driving his Silver Power through the first endgate.

Haukur drives well and secures the first place.

Sigurdur Thor Jonsson has moved to the Street Legal
Class and is driving the Puddle Trowsers.

Even though he is used to driving with more traction, Sigurdur gets the third place.

Hlynur B. Sigurdsson in his Toyota Hilux. Hlynur ends in 4th place.

Ivar Gudmundsson in the Devil moments before rolling over backwards.

The search and rescue unit "Kyndill" have two 6 wheeler ATVs an ambulance and an off road van to keep contestants safe.

Street legal class winner Haukur Thorvaldsson in the center with second place Steingrimur Bjarnason on the right and Sigurdur Thor Jonsson third place on the left.

Unlimted Class winner Jon Orn Ingileifsson in the center with Gudlaugur Helgason second place winner on the righ and Johann Runarsson thir place on the left.

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD
vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There
are so many highway bound posers that never go off the
pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in
Iceland is really refreshing.
