Hella, Iceland May 23. 2009
The Hella Formula Off Road race is usually the most fun event of the year. The first three tracks are the hill climbing followed by three timed courses with the river and the mud in the end.
The Unlimited Class
Because there are only two trucks registered for the modified street class, those two are moved into the unlimited class.
Hafsteinn Thorvaldsson on the Turf.
This is Hafstein's first try in the unlimited class and also the best day of his formula off road driving and he secures his first victory.
Bjarki Reynisson on the Animal gets third place even though he registered only for the modified street class.
Vignir R. Vignisson on the N1 Willys is not far behind and gets the fourth place.
Alexander Steinarsson has his truck keep blowing fire out of the exhaust system.
Johann Runarsson has recently bought the Clown. It is one of the most powerful trucks in the competition.
Leo Vidar Bjornsson in the Iron Maiden shows great driving skills.
Leo gets second place.
Bjorn Bragi Saevarsson on Skjalfti
Benedikt Sigfusson on Hlunkurinn.
Getting stuck in this mud is EASY.
Getting out is HARD.
Vignir gets the "swamp dragon" to pull him up after getting stuck in the middle of the track.
The Street Legal Class
Hannes Berg Thorarensen on the puddletrowsers has a great day and ends up in third place.
Hlynur B. Sigurdsson in his Toyota Hilux.
Haukur Thorvaldsson on Silver Power lands his victory in the street legal class.
Pall Palsson in the Willys CJ 5 having a go at the swamp.
Pall recently installed a twin turbo engine in his truck. Will be interesting to see how that develops as he gets it better tuned.
Steingrimur Bjarnason in his Willys starting out with the mud. He gets second place.
