The waterfall

The track crosses a small river with this beautiful waterfall.

Waterfall closeup

Water in the Icelandic highlands is crystal clear when it does not come from glaciers. It is almost always save to drink directly.

Broken radius arm bracket

Starting on our way back, Einar discovers a broken radius arm bracket.

Unfastening the bracket

Gunni loosens the radius arm from the bracket.

Connecting batteries

Dagur has two batteries and connects them together. Einar takes out his battery and connects that one also.

Welding

The three batteries give enough power to weld the crack together.

Finished welding

The result is almost better than new!

As we drive south and west the sun starts shining...

Thjorsardalur

...making the autumn colors stand out...

Low sun

...but driving is a bit difficult with the sun so low!

Traffic jam

Close to Reykjavik an accident makes a real traffic jam. The last couple of kilometers take half an hour.

The weekend has been really great!

Hope you enjoyed the writing and the pictures.

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There are so many highway bound posers that never go off the pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in Iceland is really refreshing.
