Wide Wheels

by Roy Blackwood
(Glovertown Nl Canada)

I'm interested in knowing why so many of the trucks on this site are running wide wheels. I have a ram 1500 with 315/75/16 tires but only 8" wide rims which gives the sidewalls lots of protection from rocks. This means I have to run low air pressure to get a even footprint but also gives a softer ride. I wonder if this should be the max size tire to run with stock drivetrain. I only lifted the truck 2" on front with much needed new springs but I think I can fit a even larger tire. I love the large tires with the lower center of gravity. I remember seeing a full size chev blazer years ago ,he was running 40" tires with no lift ,just had the wheelwells cut out and a lovely job to.Love to hear someones experience with the benefit of those wide rims.

Hey Roy

Check my answer at your other post about Rim width

My old F150 had a two inch body lift and 38 inch tires :)

All the best,
Thrandur

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There are so many highway bound posers that never go off the pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in Iceland is really refreshing.
