Akureyri, Iceland May 29. 2009
Akureyri is today's host of the formula off road Iceland championship. The tracks look much more challenging than the last weeks Hella race - even though it lacks any water crossings and mud throwing.
The Unlimited Class
Like last weekend there will be only unlimited class as well as the street legal class.
Getting high centered is still possible, even for these extreme trucks. Jon Orn Ingileifsson on the Choirboy finds out the hard way.
Johann Runarsson on the Clown - nice flying.
Johann ends up in fourth place.
Einar Gunnlaugsson on HP is a little bit more determined and doesn't get caught in this trap.
Einar shows great driving skills and wins the race.
Kristmundur Dagsson on Timaur.
Last years national champion Ólafur Bragi Jónsson on the Fox.
The Fox can jump but this is not a great day for Olafur.
Jon A Gestsson on the Scorpion.
Alexander Steinarsson in Suddi.
Leo Vidar Bjornsson in IronMaiden.
Leo drives well today and gets the second place.

Jon is getting the hang of it.
Hafsteinn Thorvaldsson on the Turf about to roll over...
...and taking a few turns he ends below the slope without any personal injury.
Vignir R. Vignisson on the N1 Willys in a much milder roll. Almost up the slope the truck just kind of takes a rest on the right side.

The Street Legal Class
The street legal class is still developing in the right direction with a bit more action. The engines are now highly tuned 8 cylinder monsters.
Steingrimur Bjarnason on his Willys having a slide. Steingrimur drives to victory today.
Haukur Thorvaldsson on the Silver Power catches the second place.
Stefan Bjarnhedinsson on his Willys having problems with keeping the tire on the rim in the first track...
...and the hood down on the timed track!
Hlynur B Sigurdsson on the Toyota Hilux gets the third place even though he only has a weak 6 cylinder engine.

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD
vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There
are so many highway bound posers that never go off the
pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in
Iceland is really refreshing.

to catch up on, i am going to get involved in a 4x4 club here in
Varna as there are vast amounts of tracks and mountains to explore
the news letter is boss:) and i especially like to look at readers

vehicles to go offroad, or know how to get themselfs prepared to go
offroad. this website is a wonderful way for people to learn how.I
