The fourth Formula Off Road Icelandic Championship 2009 is at Blonduos in the north-west part of Iceland. The weather is great but the dust is slightly over limit for my taste.

Benedikt Sigfusson on Hlunkurinn starts in the first track that is actually a timed course.

Even though he gets up the second track also he only gets 8th place.

Robert Agnarsson on the famous Heimasaetan.

You can see how loose the surface material is. Dry earth doesn't give much traction.

Bjorn Bragi on Skjalfti in the timed track...

...and the second track - just about to roll over.

Jon Orn Ingileifsson driving the Choireboy.

Jon Orn finishing the second track.

Hafsteinn Thorvaldsson on the Turf.

Hafsteinn clearing the second track...

...and securing his second place overall.

Bjarki Reynisson on the Animal.

Bjarki going up the second track...

...and the unconquered sixth track.

Gudbjorn Grimsson (Bubbi) is driving Ragnar Robertsson's N1 Willys.

Bubbi hasn't competed in Formula Off Road for 16 years, but is right up there with the best.

If he had not got high centered on this hill he just might have won the race. Still third place overall - not bad.

Johann Runarsson on the Clown going up in a dust cloud.

Leo Vidar Bjornsson on Iron Maiden.

Leo getting up the fourth track.

Leo is the only one to really try to finish the sixth track. Unfortunately he rolls over backwards seconds after this photo. Still Leo gets the gold today. Great driving and a nice birthday present for him!

Einar Gunnlaugsson on what he now calls the Devil (used to be Horny Performance).

Einar gets fourth place...

...even though he rolls down the slope.

Haukur Thorvaldsson on Silver Power in the timed track puddles does very well and gets the second place.

Even after having to continue without the hood, Haukur finishes in second place.

Pall Palsson on his blue Willys.

Stefan Bjarnhedinsson on his Willys doing pretty well and getting the third place.

Steingrimur Bjarnason drives his double turbo powered Willys to secure his win in the Street legal class.

Hlynur B. Sigurdsson on his Toyota Hilux. He could have used a couple more cylinders today even though he gets airborne in the third track.

Winners in street legal.
Steingrímur Bjarnasson gold medal in the center with second place Haukur Thorvaldsson on the left and third place Stefan Bjarnhedinsson to the right.

Winners in unlimited class.
Proud first place winner Leo Vidar Bjornsson in the center (with the generals hat) with second place Hafsteinn Thorvaldsson on the left (holding his dressed for race boys) and happy third place winner Gudbjorn Grimsson on the right.

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD
vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There
are so many highway bound posers that never go off the
pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in
Iceland is really refreshing.
