Thrandur Arnthorsson
and my 4x4's

Hi, my name is Thrandur Arnthorsson and I live in Iceland (so my name is really spelled "Þrándur Arnþórsson") . I have been an off roads enthusiast ever since I borrowed my fathers old Land Rover over 20 years ago. Perhaps it was even earlier...
Thrandur in California 1964

...here I am driving off-roads with my very first truck. This picture is shot in California in 1964 where my family was located at the time.

Although it's hard to tell the truck was bright red and very capable!

1990 Range-Rover-77 at HeklaI bought my first real 4x4 in 1987 and that was a Range Rover model 1977. Here we are on a trip to see the volcanic eruption at mount Hekla in 1990. The Range Rover's strong points are the spring suspension all around.

1992 Ford F-150 1987The second truck was a Ford F-150 1987. As you can see it was pretty standard off-shelf equipment, but that was about to change!

My Ford F-150

This picture is taken in 1994 and shows the first modifications. A body lift of 2 in. and Bushwacker fender flares to make room for the 38 in. Radial Mudders on 15x14 whitespoke wheels.
A custom built cap open to the front and with bench seating for two. The only electronics was a CB radio.
I also added the custom decals as the icing on the cake!

2002 Ford F-150 1987

This is how it was in towards the end. Added ARB air-lockers front and rear with 4.88 gears. I also installed a custom made four-link suspension system with air-springs in the rear. I shortened the body about 40 cm. (16 in.) between the rear wheels and tail-lights! A new aluminum cap with seats for two and a rear door! The electronics were improved with a GPS (Garmin GPS76) and an NMT phone. As you can see it was getting a bit old and rusty, but the engine and drive train were still functioning just fine!

Now I have found something better!
