The fourth and final Formula Off Road event in the 2006 Icelandic Championship is held in Blonduos. Blonduos is a friendly little town by the north coast of Iceland.
The weather man said it would be rain around the country. Lucky for us he proved wrong - hardly a drop fell from the sky.
New fixes from last event
The Land Rover bodied Animal took a serious blow at the Hella event. Now Bjarki has clearly given her a serious facelift. Even though the front end was badly damaged only the right fender is new - seems that the aluminum body can be beaten back to its former shape fairly easy. The total paintjob is new though.
Drivers working conditions are the same - but newly painted and clean.
Engine is also the same old Chewy 383.
Competition starts
Ragnar Robersson begins in the first track. He gets up with some touching the markers. The competition in the Modified Street Class is not too hard but Ragnar is trying to stay among the top players in the Overall.
Leo Vidar Bjornsson on the Ironmaiden is far from the top for the season but is showing some good driving today.
Sigurjon Leifsson on the Punisher is also far from the top but is not doing as well today...
In this track he rolls the Punisher over backwards but ends on his wheels.
Daniel G. Ingimundarson on the Green Thunder is in third place before this event and starts of nicely...
...breaking BOTH front axles is however not the best way to stay afloat in this heavy competition.
Sturla Jonsson on Batman is only with us for the first track. Something major happens to the transmission. His brother Snorri intended to use the same truck but is not able to get on the startline.
Sigurdur Thor Jonsson on the Troll is fighting for the top position the whole time. His driving is confident and effective.
Bjarki Reynisson on the Animal has forgotten to wash the flag from the swamp at Hella. He is secure in second place in the Modified Street Class and has no hope of reaching Ragnar in first place.
Gunnar Gunnarsson on the Clown is the clear winner for the day. Heaps of power and a driver who knows how to use it.
Olafur Bragi Jonsson and his Fox are doing ok. He is not a threat to the top players today.
Helgi Gunnarsson in the Sheep. It is a bit short for this sport and he is close to rolling over a few times.

Late in the competition Gunnar changes the rear wheels on his Rapper and shows how much better the full paddle tires are...
...At the same time he loses all points after that - since he is registered in the Modified Street Class.

...the bad landing breaks the transfer case but lands Ragnar in second position Overall. Pretty good considering his less than optimal tires.
Street Legal Class
Street Legal Class reminds many of the state of the Formula Off Road some 20 years ago. Enthusiastic Jeep owners would take the tent of their Jeeps and go for it - risking their family 4x4.
Steingrimur Bjarnason in the Willys Jeep is the winner in Street Legal Class without much competition...
...from Pall Palsson in Willys CJ5 1966 who gets second place.
