The fifth Formula Off Road Icelandic Championship 2009 is at Kollafjordur just north of Reykjavik. The race is also a part of the Nordic Cup, but since the competitors can choose to skip two out of 10 competitions none is attending from the other Nordic countries.

Robert Agnarsson on Heimasaetan.

The N1 Willys had two Irish competiors. Graham Little and Colin Carrol.

Colin Carrol had more trouble driving the tracks and gets high centered in this track.

Graham Little shows more skills although he rolls the truck seconds after this photo in cloud of dust...

...and also here in the last track where the flight doesn't end as well as it could.

Bjorn Bragi on Skjalfti.

Bjorn about to roll over in the second track - still gets fourth place.

Jon Orn Ingileifsson about to dive in with his Choireboy...

...rolling over in the fifth track...

...and finishing the last track with a successful flight - landing him in the second place.

Johann Runarsson driving the Clown on water.

Johann is getting a better feel for his new truck...

...although he rolls it over in the last track. Johann ends up in third place.

Leo Vidar Bjornsson on Iron Maiden. Leo has serious trouble with the transmission and has to change it TWO times today. This is not helping him in his fight for the national championship.

Sigurdur Thor Jonsson and the Troll start the first track by rolling over and breaking a tire off.

Siggi still gets the truck rolling.

And finishes with a successful pass through the demanding last track.

Benedikt Sigfusson on Hlunkurinn.

Hafsteinn Thorvaldsson on the Turf doing a nice safe on the second track where he backs out of a backwards roll.

Hafsteinn drives well today...

...and gets the first place although only with a ONE point lead!

Bjarki Reynisson on the Animal.

The two Irish guys Graham Little and Colin Carrol with Asgeir who was helping them as a mechanic. They have done many strange things together, like forming a sumo wrestling championship in Ireland and competing in the world sumo wrestling championship! And actually they have a TV show with their stunts.

A nice big wheeled Grand Cherokee!

Pall Palsson on his Willys.

Pall is hot today and ends up in the first place.

Steingrimur Bjarnason on his Wllys.

Hannes Berg Thorarinsson on Puddletrousers.

Hannes is wild today and rolls over even here on level ground.

In the last track he gives it all...

...with drastic results.

Engine moved back 20 cm and too much damage to continue tomorrow.
Still Hannes gets the third place.

Haukur Thorvaldsson on Silver Power.

Hlynur B. Sigurdsson on his Toyota Hilux has better grip than in Blonduos and gets a well deserved second place.

Winners in unlimited class.
First place winner Hafsteinn Thorvaldsson to the left with second place Jon Orn Ingileifsson in the center and third place winner Johann Runarsson on the right.

I really enjoy seeing real 4WD
vehicles in real situations where they are needed. There
are so many highway bound posers that never go off the
pavement here that seeing life or death 4 wheeling in
Iceland is really refreshing.
